Heaven's 1st Song

When we created this remix project I was so inspired musically I felt like I was touched by God at times. A lot has changed since then because I've had to pick up a lot of slack on the business end. On the production end I'm slowly getting back into it and having been paying attention to every producer up and coming and not established. So "Heaven's 1st Song" is my inspiration for today as I journey back to music production.

Zulu Faz & DJ Burn One Present: Rhode Scholar Vol. 1

Zulu Faz teamed up with Dj Burn One along with Greedmontpark, Refinedhype and Djbooth to present “Rhode Scholar Vol. 1″. The mixtape is produced almost entirely by Faz, with his Kaotiq Simfoni cohort Zimbabwe Kev, along with Session and Vereen Corp, providing additional beat work. Features come from Lil Wayne and Curren$y (blended by DJ Judge Mental) and up-and-coming Boston rapper/producer Session. Art direction provided by Corey Davis.

The download link and mixtape preview are below, but before we get there……who wants an iPad loaded with goodies, including an advance copy of “Rhode Scholar Vol. 2″? That was a rhetorical question, you do. It’s simple: just download the project and create a response video. Check below for details.

Win RefinedHype & Kaotiq Simfoni’s “Beautiful Noize Vol. 1” Emcee Contest (Enter!)

Here's how it all happened. Regular readers know that thanks to projects like "God's Black Son" and "12 Monkeys", Atlanta based production duo Kaotiq Simfoni (aka Zimbabwe Kev and Zulu Faz) are some of my favorite producers. So when Kev mentioned that he was sitting on a treasure trove of dope beats he didn't have a home for, we decided to open things up to the emcees who frequent the pages of RefinedHype with our new "Beautiful Noize" series.

It's simple really. Every month Kaotiq Simfoni will drop two new beats. Emcees, cop the beats, lay down your best rhymes, and then send the mp3 to me (nathan@refinedhype.com). At the end of every month we'll select the best flow for each beat, and that rapper(s) will get an article written about them, extolling their virtues and making them the envy of their friends and neighbors.

So have at it people. Though I have to warn you. I know for a fact that some pretty dope emcees are citizens of RefinedHype Nation, so you're going to have to really bring it if you want to win.

God's Black Son PRESS RELEASE

ATLANTA PRODUCTION DUO KAOTIQ SIMFONI
GET SET TO BRING NAS AND JAY-Z TOGETHER
IN A SPECIAL HIGLY-ANTICIPATED COLLABORATION ALBUM
GOD’S BLACK SON ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 13TH, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Atlanta, GA- August 1, 2010) – Atlanta production duo Kaotiq Simfoni, which consists of African-born brothers Zimbabwe Kev and Zulu Faz have done what two of Hip-Hop’s most notable names failed to do but fans really wanted. The former Massachusetts natives and current Atlanta residents have brought Nas and Jay-Z’s sound together in a special collaboration project entitled God’s Black Son, which will be released via their website www.Godsblackson.com at midnight on Friday, August 13th. Much like what Danger Mouse did with The Grey Album, Kaotiq Simfoni has innovatively meshed two of the living legend’s greatest pieces of work, Nas’ God’s Son album (2002) and Jay-Z’s The Black Album (2003) to create a seamlessly flawless compilation complete with fresh production, crisp sound and live instrumentation. Music critics who were able to preview the album early, have already hailed that it sounds as if the two MC’s actually recorded together in the studio. With song titles such as “Thugz Mansion,” which features TuPac, “Get What More”, “Dirt Off Warrior” and “Zone 99”, Zimbabwe Kev and Zulu Faz have set the bar for not only top notch production, but also trailblazing ideology.

From their work monikers to their production name, Kaotiq Simfoni is anything but orthodox. Their professional work ethic and solid inner-strength is a birthright given to them by their parents who sacrificed wealth and comfort in their native land of Zimbabwe to give their family an even better living in America. Going from a house to an apartment and a private school to receiving a public education, Zimbabwe Kev and Zulu Faz know how to take something good and make it great, all the while without complaint. Having both worked with Big Boi of OutKast and with Zimbabwe Kev currently working as Studio Manager of Glenn Schick Mastering, Kaotiq Simfoni have made their vocation a vacation- gaining invaluable wisdom and skills about their passion for music while earning a living.

The budding producers have partnered with music veteran DJ Judge Mental to bring a specially-crafted mixtape project that pays a humble ode to the art of sampling. The concept is a musical adaptation taken from the movie 12 Monkeys, where the music revolves in circles. “We want to showcase our beats and just be innovative,” says Zulu Faz. “The idea was to challenge ourselves and package a project with a new concept and swing for the fences.” What is sure to be a home run hit, Kaotiq Simfoni is already on to the next. The innovative team is working on Zulu Faz's musical endeavor, as well as Jihad of Bases Loaded Entertainment (J Futuristic).
